Coping with fatigue and irritable bowel syndrome

Fatigue in and of itself is not necessarily a serious matter. However, when fatigue becomes debilitating, thus affecting ones quality of life, it must be addressed and its cause identified. Of all the symptoms that are associated with irritable bowel syndrome, fatigue is the most commonly reported.

You can use the following tips in an effort to control the symptoms from which you are currently suffering. Of course you will want to discuss the specifics with your doctor.

Controlling Fatigue And Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Diet is a major contributing factor in irritable bowel syndrome. In order to control and find relief from the chronic fatigue associated with this malady it will be necessary to remove certain types of food from the daily diet. For instance fatty and sugary food, in addition to those that have a high caffeine content, should be eliminated. These foods cause intestinal spasms and cramping, aggravate the irritable bowel condition, and result in increased fatigue and lethargy.

Those individuals that suffer from bloating and gas will need to eliminate foods such as beans, cabbage, and carbonated beverages,as these foods create more gas and also aggravate an irritable bowel condition. It is recommended that fewer nuts and raisins be eaten, as well as any foods that contain sorbitol, and antacids containing magnesium. Acidity foods and juices (apple juice for example) should also be avoided.

Speak to your doctor about nutritional supplements that are great for combating fatigue and relieving irritable bowel syndrome. Prior to taking any supplement you must be sure to take into consideration and discuss any medications the doctor may have prescribed for you. You would not want to contradict or adversely affect these medicines.

Irritable bowel syndrome is a very serious condition. Each patient should work closely with their physician in order to find the method of treatment that suits them best. The good news is that with the proper treatment, making dietary changes and taking recommended precautions symptoms can be relieved and a reoccurence of the condition can be prevented.

On the other hand, irritable bowel syndrome (and its related symptoms) left untreated can be very dangerous. It is critical to address it and pursue treatment.
