10 month old with chronic constipation?

hi,
my 10 month old son has trouble doing his poo's. at this stage i don't think it is constipation anymore but something else.
the stool is in his rectum and there is plenty of it, but it is always very hard and he needs a suppository every few days to get things moving. before people lecture me about the suppositories, i was at the hospital with him about a month ago because i could feel a lump in his belly just above his pubic bone and my GP sent us to A&E to get him checked out. after X-rays and lots of probing they told me that he had fecal impaction and gave me a prescription for supositories that i was to use for a few days or until the impaction was cleared.
but even since it was cleared it keeps coming back. it's not a lack of fibre since the volume of his poo is very large (more like an adults poo), and very hard. we are also giving him duphalac on my doctors advice, but that doesnt do any good either.
to give you more info, he is also alergic to milk and on a hypoalergenic formula called Neocate. he usually eats wheatabix or ready brek for breakfast, stewed veg for lunch and potato, meat and veg for dinner.
me and my husband are starting to worry that there might be something more serious going on, we're going back to the doctors on Thursday, but would like some advice and opinions/experiences from some other parents.
